[CryptoButthead.com , May 9, 2023] Well, I’ll be doggone! This here city judge in the Big Apple threw down a protective order in the case against former President Donald Trump. This order’s supposed to keep all the evidence shared by the DA’s office from sprouting legs and running onto the internet.
Last month, Trump hollered out his “not guilty” plea to 34 felony counts. These charges are all about fudging business records in what those city prosecutors are callin’ an “illegal scheme”. They say Trump tried to sway the 2016 presidential race by having his then-lawyer, Michael Cohen, pay off adult film actress Stormy Daniels to the tune of $130,000. This was all to keep her quiet about an affair she said she had with Trump, which he’s been denying for longer than a summer day.
Trump paid Cohen back through a string of monthly checks, and prosecutors are saying this resulted in some cooked books, all to hide the real reason behind those payments.
The order from Judge Juan Merchan says that any materials and information handed over by the prosecutors to Trump’s defense team during the trial “shall be used solely for the purposes of preparing a defense in this matter.”
The order also warns that “any person who receives the Covered Materials shall not copy, disseminate, or disclose the Covered Materials, in any form or by any means, to any third party.” This means no posting or sharing on any social media platforms, including the likes of Truth Social, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Twitter, Snapchat, or YouTube, without the court saying it’s okay first.
Prosecutors wanted this protective order because of Trump’s long track record of stirring the pot with his words about witnesses, prosecutors, and others tangled up in his legal issues, according to assistant district attorney Catherine McCaw.
But don’t you worry, this order ain’t stopping Trump from shooting the breeze about the case while he’s out there running for a second term as president.
“This is not a gag order,” said Merchan. Trump will need to attend a virtual hearing where the protective order will be read to him to make sure he knows what’s what.
